    Greetings to all,

My name is Cat. I have just joined your group. I am based in London and I am a professional artist and Arts and Crafts teacher. I work a lot from recycled items as well as drawings, paintings, mosaic and this and that too.
I am looking forwards to meet you all.

  • What Art Do You Have On Your Wall and why?

What artwork or pictures, photos do you have on your walls? Are they from choice, habit or necessity? If necessity what would you put on your wall if money was no object? I'll try and post some pics of mine later on

  • Portraits

Chyna has just posted a question about portrait painting and as a matter of interest on portrait painting, or drawing, whatever, I remember watching a programme some time ago about a very well known portrait painter I can't recall his name sorry but he painted a lot of celebrities, a painting he was attempting at the time was of a female celebrity, he just couldn't get this painting right and had to start again with a new canvas and initial sketches. It's comforting to know that even experienced highly accomplished professional artists make mistakes sometimes... :)

  • Artemisart Themes For the The Month

If anyone is interested in creating something lovely instead of a competition we are running with a theme or themes for the month just to give a bit of inspiration really...so Kevins idea (thanks kev) was

Buildings and my two are Trees and Portraits (this could be human or animal)

    Good practise

You may not want to do any of that which is fine, they are just ideas...so come on lets be having you, it's all very quiet on buk generally, wonder if lots of lucky people are away on holiday? I wish I was......:D

  • Gifted!?

My oil painting teacher said that you needed to be gifted to paint faces/portraits in oil. (As she can with other mediums but not oil!) Is this true?

I know I have not tried and never will know until I do!

Also when doing faces, has those who have done draw them first onto the wet canvas then apply paint?

  • WOUNDED KNEE MASSACRE

    wounded knee massacre

I rarely paint abstracts but this I had to do.

On December 29 1890 at Wounded Knee South Dakota The 7th cavalry of the United States Army, "BLUE AND YELLOW OF THE UNIFORM" supported by four artilery pieces surrounded a camp of the Lakota and Hunpapa Sioux. Their orders were to escort the Sioux to the railroad for transportation to Omaha Nebraska. The day before the Sioux had willingly agreed to surrender and go to the Pine Ridge agency. They were the last to do so.
The commander of the 7th had been ordered disarm them before proceeding. During the proceeure a deaf tribesman named Black Coyote could not hear the orders to give up his rifle. This set off a train of reaction that led to a scene of chaos and fighting between both sides.
By the time it was all over more than 300 men, women and children of the Lakota had been killed,"THE RED IS THEIR BLOOD". Twenty five soldiers also died, many from 'friendly' fire.
The bodies were left where they lay overnight, a heavy snow fall "WHITE" covered the bodies of the dead and froze to death the wounded. The next day the bodies were shoveled into a mass grave "BLACK EARTH".
This battle is noteworth, as it is the battle in which the most Medals of Honour have ever been awarded in the history of all wars in the United States. The Medal of Honour is the United States hghest award for bravery.
God bless America The Land of The Free.

  • Theme for the Month?

I loved Alans idea (foxhat) of having themes or subjects instead of a competition, so how about we do have a theme or two a month, any ideas?

    A note re recession......

I know that art materials are expensive, you could use photocopy paper for drawing, why not use the kids colouring pencils, or wax crayons and there is also the sample pots you get in diy shops, these are great for paintings! You might have a local scrap store which is great for collage materials etc, or even a freecycle group where people literally give things away if you can collect them. I know in my family times are tough as several have lost their jobs recently so buying art materials is a luxury.
