Arty ideas?

I have joined a weekly art group in my local area (to hone my skills! ) and each week we usually something different. I have only been in the last 3 weeks and they have been sketching (includes using any medium) and painting without brushes.

But in the past they have done other themes. Here are some examples (don't ask me what some of them mean as I haven't joined for long! ):-

Monochrome Painting
Swinging Sixties
Pastel Demo
Painting in Oriental Style
Sporting Theme
Short Poses
Altered Seasons
Collage Workshop
Local Landmarks
Mixed Media Demo
Nature Studies
Eggs in One Basket
Oil Painting Suits All
Sketching Nights

My question is, can anyone out there suggest other styles or themes I can tell the group??
I am hoping they will repeat some of the above!
*Please note this is just a Traditional art group! *

The meeting is tonight but if you post your comment later or tomorrow etc, I am sure I could still have a word with the organisers!

These things sound great also! We could do some of them later on! (I don't understand all also, but I am sure someone else does and could explain us)

  Eggs in One basket puzzled me a little. Methink it could just mean drawing eggs!? As I joined before Easter and that was long before then!

    For me these 3 give small headache: Monochrome Painting,
    Swinging Sixties and Painting in Oriental Style (let's say it's because of my english... or lack of it ; )

themes, food, flowers, sea, sky, weather, people, emotions, animals, trees, landscape, still life, hands, feet

techniques could include forshortening or perspective (both difficult)

workshops could include drawing hands and feet or facial types and features

the 'swinging sixties' could possibly be a graphic form of art for example Pop Art... Andy Warhol style. I think 'eggs in one basket' could have been a still life them for Easter but I could be wrong!

('monochrome' means one colour or tone)

Right then, when i was doing my degree we did a three week short visual studies course with 2 tutors from the art school. One of the things the tutors did was get someone to stand on a table and pose for a very short time, then what we had to do was to close our eyes and interpret what we had seen from memory. Sounds weird, but it was such a good exercise. We all loved it, it was 100% attendance for the whole 3 weeks!!!

ooh thanks neil that reminds me of someting else, try drawing something upside down, sounds wierd but it makes you draw using the right side of the brain and is an excellent exercise

Pleased to hear you have joined a group. Hope you get a lot of pleasure from it. I have been thinking of doing the same.

Painting by tiny dots (Pointillism) is a suggestion you could make. Otherwise Wendy has covered most of the other possibilities
