wounded knee massacre

I rarely paint abstracts but this I had to do.

On December 29 1890 at Wounded Knee South Dakota The 7th cavalry of the United States Army, "BLUE AND YELLOW OF THE UNIFORM" supported by four artilery pieces surrounded a camp of the Lakota and Hunpapa Sioux. Their orders were to escort the Sioux to the railroad for transportation to Omaha Nebraska. The day before the Sioux had willingly agreed to surrender and go to the Pine Ridge agency. They were the last to do so.
The commander of the 7th had been ordered disarm them before proceeding. During the proceeure a deaf tribesman named Black Coyote could not hear the orders to give up his rifle. This set off a train of reaction that led to a scene of chaos and fighting between both sides.
By the time it was all over more than 300 men, women and children of the Lakota had been killed,"THE RED IS THEIR BLOOD". Twenty five soldiers also died, many from 'friendly' fire.
The bodies were left where they lay overnight, a heavy snow fall "WHITE" covered the bodies of the dead and froze to death the wounded. The next day the bodies were shoveled into a mass grave "BLACK EARTH".
This battle is noteworth, as it is the battle in which the most Medals of Honour have ever been awarded in the history of all wars in the United States. The Medal of Honour is the United States hghest award for bravery.
God bless America The Land of The Free.
