Chyna has just posted a question about portrait painting and as a matter of interest on portrait painting, or drawing, whatever, I remember watching a programme some time ago about a very well known portrait painter I can't recall his name sorry but he painted a lot of celebrities, a painting he was attempting at the time was of a female celebrity, he just couldn't get this painting right and had to start again with a new canvas and initial sketches. It's comforting to know that even experienced highly accomplished professional artists make mistakes sometimes...

Exactly, so it is worth trying and trying again, sometimes people give up too easily and just think they can't do it, it takes time

If you don't catch the likeness quickly, better to start again...

Yes I agree jen, art is a funny thing isn't it, can be the most magical thing on earth and the most infuriating!

After half an hour painting (anything, no matter what the subject) I start to panic. Reason tells me to abandon... but I have learned that once I break through that half hour barrier, the picture almost always comes together. So now I stick at it and keep on going. It works for me 99% of the time!

I panic over every painting I ever do, I understand why people never pick up a brush, you have to bold, and no-one has to see the disasters do they?
you should see the sketches I threw away the other evening
